On the 25th of March 2009, Minister President Günther H. Öttinger presented the award for overall winner in the "Factory of the Year" competition to the Festool production plant in Neidlingen.
For over 80 years, Festool has been developing high-quality electric and pneumatic tools for professional and discerning users. Right from the start the top priority was quality and innovation. The production plant in Neidlingen has now received the "Factory of the Year" award for the third time: in 2002 for the "Best Assembly System", in 2005 for the "Best Production System", and in 2008 the overall award for continuity and sustainable change management.
Factors emphasised by the jury were, in particular, the successful implementation of lean concepts, the consistent philosophy of continuous improvement, as well as the high quality standards. Minister President Günther H. Öttinger presented the award and trophy to top manufacturer Festool on the 25th of March 2009 in the Liederhalle in Stuttgart during the "Factory of the Year/GEO" congress. The competition has been organised since 1992 by the technical journal Produktion and the management consultants A. T. Kearney from Munich and is now one of the toughest benchmark competitions in the manufacturing industry in Germany.
The aim of the competition is to identify and highlight first-class performances of manufacturing companies in Germany and Europe. This special award demonstrates that the Southern German medium-sized enterprise, as overall winner, is even able to distance itself from major German companies. Participants also included Mercedes Benz (Sindelfingen plant: winner in the Best Quality Management category), VW (Braunschweig plant: winner of the Excellent Mass Production category) as well as other reputable German companies. For Festool customers, this award is further evidence of the high level of quality and service orientation, which is reflected, above all, in product quality and the ability to deliver quickly and dependably.
